Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar (to balance acidity)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the noodles: Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until softened. Add the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Once browned, stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Assemble the lasagna: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the ingredients as follows:
  4. Start with a thin layer of sauce at the bottom.
  5. Place a layer of lasagna noodles on top.
  6. Add a layer of sauce, followed by a few dollops of ricotta cheese.
  7. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  9. Bake the lasagna: Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color!
