Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for browning)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tbsp cold water (if using cornstarch)
- Optional: Mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for serving
- Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Hamburger Steak Patties
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 6–8 oval patties.
Step 2: Brown the Patties
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown each patty on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side. Don’t cook them through—just get that rich sear.
Step 3: Make the Gravy Mixture
In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, onion soup mix, and cream of mushroom soup. If you like your gravy thicker, mix cornstarch with cold water and stir into the gravy.
Step 4: Assemble the Bake
Place browned patties in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour gravy mixture over the top, covering all patties.
Step 5: Bake Until Bubbling
Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes to thicken and brown slightly.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or fluffy rice. Sprinkle with chopped parsley for a fresh pop of color.
